As the leaves turn golden and the air grows crisp, our cravings shift towards warm, comforting beverages. This recipe is perfect for Halloween, Autumn or 'Fall', but why not enjoy it all year round!
This Pumpkin Spice Dandelion "Coffee" - a delightful fusion of autumnal pumpkin spice with the deep, roasted undertones of dandelion root.
This drink is not just a treat for the senses but also a nod to traditional herbal infusions.
Whether you opt for store-bought pumpkin spice or craft your own blend, this recipe promises a cup full of fall magic.
Pumpkin Spice Dandelion "Coffee"
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Brewing Time: 10-15 minutes
Cooling Time: 1 hour
- 1 tsp Dandelion Root Loose Herbal Tea
- 1 tsp pumpkin spice (if you don't have this on hand you can make your own! See Kitchen Tips below)
- 1 cinnamon stick (opt. to garnish)
- 1 cup your choice of milk (we love coconut or almond milk)
Roasting the Dandelion Root: If you're starting with raw dandelion root (this is what ours is), place 1tsp of the Loose Herbal Tea in a large cast-iron pan, set over medium heat. Roast them, stirring occasionally, until they achieve a rich, dark brown hue. Once roasted, grind the roots to a coarse powder.
Brewing the Infusion: In a medium saucepan, bring water to a vigorous boil. Once boiling, introduce the ground roasted dandelion root and pumpkin spice to the water. Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer, allowing the mixture to infuse for 10 to 15 minutes. This will ensure the flavours blend together beautifully.
Final Touches: Strain the brewed mixture into your favourite mug, discarding the solids. If you desire a touch of sweetness, now's the time to add your preferred sweetener. Pour in the coconut or almond milk (froth first if desired), stirring gently to combine.
Serving: Garnish your drink with the cinnamon stick, if using. For an extra touch of indulgence, top with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Kitchen Tip: If you don't have a Pumpkin Spice blend on hand, you can make your own! All you need to do is mix 1tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg, 1/4 tsp ground ginger and 1/8 tsp ground cloves in a bowl or jar. And that's it! Adjust quantities to your liking.
Now the making is out of the way, all that is left to do is wrap your hands around the warm cup, take a deep breath, and savour the flavours of Autumn with every sip. Enjoy!
